All too often we focus on the big back-of-the-box features in games so it’s sometimes nice to take a step back and appreciate the tiny satisfying details that, although low-key, take a game from good to great and cement their place in our hearts. Here are seven of our favourites. Subscribe for videos like this every week from Outside Xbox!

why the hell isn't any ps4 game included when there are several nintendo titles included?
You could make the entire list with only RDR2
Toast!
The fact that every single pokemon in sword and shield has an eating animation when eating the curry
Not related to the games, but pls bring back ur old style of presentation. No matter what others think, i used to enjoy those puns and pranks. In fact, i think this is the first video if yours that i have watched after u switched styles, i didnt feel like watching the others at all
it's a stupidly small detail: but little bits of interaction you get with your base in Subnautica, like how every angle of hatch has it's own entrance and exit animation, because y'know….gravity, and the wonderfully simple yet oddly satisfying animation of opening and shutting the bulkheads, which I love doing next to my nuclear reactor for the RP of it
YOU DARE DISGRACE MARIO WITH HIS COWARD BROTHER LUIGI?!
5:38 You can't fool me outsidexbox, I know what you did there!
Coincidence??
There is no such thing as coincidence.
In Star Trek Online, you can get a variety of food items to boost your health, including Vulcan Plomeek soup, Romulan Ale, Field Rations and Feline Supplement 47. (Incidentally, those last two look very much alike! :-)) Additionally, you can also pick up tribbles, which gives you an out of combat health boost. Now what happens if you feed a tribble? You get more tribbles. If you leave a tribble in your inventory with some kind of food item, the food item will disappear and another tribble will appear in its place. You can also leave a special food item in your inventory (like a baked ham from Q's Winter Wonderland) and you'll receive a special tribble specific to that event.
The suit tattering in The Amazing Spider-Man for the Xbox 360. Oh!
The gun swivel reminds of how Link in Twilight Princess will swishy-swish his sword sometimes when you sheath it. I get so needlessly excited for it whenever I play it.
In twilight princess you could pick up the cats and dogs and hold them in your arms, also you could throw bones for the dogs and they’d play fetch
In FFXII, there's the character called Jovial Seeq who is always seen laughing. Except for when the Wraith hunt is underway, since his son for scared of it and locked himself inside an apartment.
When geralt pushes his sword up to remove the sword from his back…🙌
I like the details called bugs in Skyrim.
I mean the actual intentional bugs, like ants crawling over a tree stump.
12:18 I bet I'll never hear him say 'Mr. Leto.'
Being able to stack intractable items. Sand moving/physics. Water current. (Example Assassin’s Creed Origins)
Don't know why, but whether it's gaming, anime, or anything else, if they don't do a good job with the eyes, I just can't stand watching/playing it.
footprints in sand. Just footprints. Am still fascinated every time
One of my favorite unnecessary detail is the hammers for pistols in destiny 2 move with the the trigger on the controller
Anytime I play a game, I always look to see if the MC has a reflection! When they do, it makes me so happy 🙂
I recently discovered that in Loz: Twilight Princess, Link's basement has a mirror in the corner that shows his reflection. I hung out down there for WAY too long
Oh seeing your feet, that's always a big one.
In Halo 3 I remember it blew me away seeing the characters stand at an incline when on a ramp
Flourishing weapons in MMO's and RPG's. Specifically, in KOTOR spinning your swords or lightsabers. Only way to get around when traipsing through the world.
One of my favorites is in Breath of the Wild. When you open a chest while it's upside down or not from the front, Link will kick it open. If he's not wearing pants, he'll hurt his foot and hold it before the item pops up. Really, you could do a whole video on small Breath of the Wild details, but this is one of my favorites.
Wounds. I remember playing Punisher and it was the first game that had bullet holes
is no one going to mention how he pronounces keanu reeves
Dark souls 2 : Depending on your health and stamina, you get a different animation, so that makes it better after boss fights.
Ha codsworth knows my dogs name
Hey , i am just curious if somebody could tell me the name of the first person game in the first shot of the video or the third person game it cuts right after . Thanks in advance !
2:45 – that’s the red room from Twin Peaks 😂
Well, Todd Howard probably had a girlfriend named "Jane" in his youth and their breakup was nasty.
you forgot about godhand where you can make your own martial arts style
I love a good idle animation, especially ones from when the game gets bored waiting for you. The obvious one is Sonic tapping his foot and throwing himself to his death but Simon the Sorcerer had a fun one where Simon (who, I feel I should point out is a sorcerer) will produce a Walkman from his magic hat and stand there listening to it bopping along to the unheard music and then carefully put it away when you finally tell him to do something.
The recent South Park games do something similar when you're taking too long to make a choice or follow a command given by another character (Cartman's narration in your origin flashbacks in Fractured But Whole for instance) where the character will just start making annoyed comments.
is 7 your favourite number?
I always loved the sweet sword moves Link did in Twilight Princess when you sheathed your sword right after defeating an enemy.
The game never tells you that you can do it and i discovered in completely on accident but it makes winning a hard fight so much more satisfying.
